I went down to the Florida Keys last week and came away with several images I liked. I shot with Jay and Varina Patel, both excellent photographers, the “Landscape Power Couple” I called them. Anyways, we stopped at Anne’s Beach and Bahia Honda State Park.
I used my 400mm with extension tubes to shoot some fiddler crabs and let Varina try it. I think I got her hooked on long lenses. At Bahia Honda there were a ton of Great Southern White butterflies. They were flying around Coastal Searocket, and the larvae could be seen feeding on it. I also used a 10 stop neutral density filter(you can hardly see through it, it is so dark) to get some long exposures in the middle of the day. I wanted to really bring out the beautiful colors of the tropical water. I accidentally fired off a very underexposed shot that I got a little creative with. I liked the moody feel.
